Melt Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 9, 2026

Melt ("we," "our," or "us") is a friendship maintenance app designed to help you stay close to the people who matter most. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using Melt, you agree to the practices described here.

Melt is currently in beta and operated by its founder. If you have questions, please reach out directly at sarah@melt-together.com.

1. Information We Collect

1a. Information You Provide

When you use Melt, you provide information about yourself and the people you care about:

  • Friend profiles: names, neighborhood or area, shared interests, hangout cadence, and optional private notes ("Considerations") visible only to you

  • Hangout ideas: titles, descriptions, locations, and availability dates

  • Ratings and preferences you record within the app

  • Account information if you register (email address and password, managed through Supabase Auth)

  • If you submit feedback through the app, your message is transmitted via Supabase and delivered to us through Gmail. Don't include sensitive personal information in feedback submissions.

1b. Information Collected Automatically

When you use Melt, our infrastructure may automatically collect:

  • Basic usage data and error logs through our hosting provider (Netlify)

  • IP address and browser/device type as part of normal web server logs

  • Database query logs retained by Supabase per their standard practices

1c. Local Storage

Melt may store data in your browser's local storage to preserve your session state. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted unless you take an explicit action.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide solely to operate and improve Melt:

  • To display your friends list, planning ideas, and reminders

  • To calculate hangout cadences and surface overdue connections

  • To enable the Planning Space and idea rating features

  • To diagnose bugs and improve the app's reliability

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data to train machine learning models.

3. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored using the following infrastructure:

Supabase (Database & Authentication)

Friend profiles, hangout ideas, ratings, and account credentials are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified and stores data in the United States by default. Row-Level Security (RLS) policies are used to ensure users can only access their own data. Supabase's Privacy Policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.

Netlify (Hosting)

The Melt web application is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may collect standard access logs including IP addresses. Netlify's Privacy Policy is available at netlify.com/privacy.

4. Data You Enter About Others

Melt allows you to store information about your friends — including their name, interests, and your private notes about them. Please use this feature responsibly:

  • Your "Considerations" notes are private and not visible to the people they describe

  • Only enter information you are comfortable storing in a cloud database

  • We recommend keeping notes factual and respectful

Melt is a personal tool. We are not responsible for how you choose to describe others within the app.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not share your personal information with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Supabase and Netlify receive your data as necessary to operate the app, as described above

  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Melt users

  • Business transfers: In the event Melt is acquired or merged, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction

Melt does not contain advertising SDKs, social media tracking pixels, or analytics services beyond basic server logs.

6. Your Choices and Rights

Deleting Your Data

You can delete individual friends and their associated planning ideas from within the app. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at privacy@melt-together.com and we will complete the deletion within 30 days.

Exporting Your Data

We do not currently offer a self-serve data export tool. If you would like a copy of your data, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Updating Your Information

You can edit or delete friend profiles and hangout ideas directly within the app at any time.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you request account deletion, we will remove your data from our active databases within 30 days. Supabase and Netlify may retain logs for a limited period per their own policies.

8. Children's Privacy

Melt is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:

  • HTTPS encryption in transit via Netlify

  • Row-Level Security policies in Supabase to restrict data access

  • Password hashing handled by Supabase Auth

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to addressing vulnerabilities promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify active users. Continued use of Melt after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact

If you have questions, requests, or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact privacy@melt-together.com.
